- MAX goes just about
everywhere!
This area is designed to help you familiarize yourself with our system.
|
|
- MAX buses only stop at locations marked with a bench, shelter
and/or sign. Call 521-1274 before riding to find out where you can catch the bus in your area.
When at a marked stop, position yourself near the sign so the driver knows
that you want to ride. The driver may not stop for you if it
doesn't look like you want to ride. Back away from the curb as the
bus approaches to avoid the mirror on the side of the bus.
|
|
- Each MAX route is wheelchair accessible. All
MAX buses
begin each day with working wheelchair lifts. However, lifts are susceptible to unpredictable breakdowns during operation.
All wheelchairs must be secured with tie-down straps while in the
bus. For detail on MAX's Tiedown Policy

|
- When boarding MAX, please have your pass, ticket or transfer
ticket ready to give to the driver. When you are paying cash, please have EXACT change ready to deposit in the fare
box before boarding the bus. Remember, the driver does not carry change!
|
|
- One block before your stop, pull the cord over the window or
push the yellow tape strip. The driver will then stop the bus as close to the next marked bus stop as can be done safely. Please exit through the rear door so that boarding passengers may enter through the front door.
|
|
- You may need to transfer to another
route when you make a trip
on MAX. Transferring is not difficult, and transfers between routes are
FREE when
traveling continuously in the same
direction without stopping except to transfer to a different
route. The driver will accept your transfer ticket if the bus
you are transferring to is the first possible bus on that route that
you can board after exiting the bus from which you transferred.
You may not re-board the same route using a transfer. You
must pay another fare to ride if you do not board the first possible bus on the route
to which you are transferring.
Please request your transfer as you board. If you are planning to transfer and your bus is running late, please tell your driver.
He will ask the driver of the bus you want to wait for you, if time
allows.
Additionally, a transfer can be made at any point along the
MAX route network where two or more individual routes cross
or meet. Please consult the route maps for such points.
|
|
- A transfer fee of 25 cents is available for those passengers
desiring to transfer between MAX and Stanislaus Regional Transit (StaRT),
Ceres Area Transit (CAT), Ceres Dial-A-Ride, or eTrans (Escalon). You must request your transfer from your driver when you pay your
fare or purchase your day pass.
CERES AREA TRANSIT (CAT) AND CERES DIAL-A-RIDE (DAR):
You can transfer to CAT or Ceres DAR at Hatch and Herndon from
Route 29 or 42. Notify your MAX driver if you wish to transfer to Ceres DAR. The driver will contact Ceres DAR and arrange for a Ceres
DAR vehicle to pick you up.
ETRANS ROUTE 1: You
can transfer to eTrans Route 1 from MAX
Routes 22, 27 and 37 at McHenry & Standiford Avenues.
Call (209) 541-6645 for more details.
